After the first visit with a pediatric dentist, you will know that your child is in good hands. When you first you walk into the office it will be obvious that the environment has been created with children in mind. The theme is continued with a friendly greeting by the staffers who will put everyone at ease, and introduce your child to the activity center where he can play with the toys or watch videos before he sees the dentist.
When you make your appointment, you will be asked to bring documentation of your child’s medical history, and any previous dental records. Once the dentist has reviewed the information, he will examine your child’s gums, teeth and jaw. If he feels x-rays are indicated, he will discuss the need with you before taking further action. Because of the constant changes in growth and development that children experience, taking a closer look can sometimes detect a potentially serious problem before it can intensify. A pediatric dentist will usually suggest that x-rays be taken twice a year.
After your child’s teeth have been cleaned and polished, the pediatric dentist will want to discuss habits and home care so that the teeth and gums will stay healthy until the next visit. Parents are encouraged to ask any questions they may have about diet, or dental products. A pediatric dentist will take the time to talk about any concerns you may have.
